How it works

From a folder of files to a published episode

Five steps, and nothing is charged for until the third one has been agreed in writing.

  1. 01

You send the recording and the brief

There is no upload box on this site, and that is deliberate: a form that took your files would need somewhere to put them, and this is a static site with nothing behind it. Instead you send a link from wherever the files already are, and they stay in your account until we have copied them.

With the link goes the brief: what the recording is, how it was made, what you want done to it and anything that should come out. The form on the Contact page assembles that for you; an email saying the same things does just as well.

  2. 02

    We listen, then quote

Everything is listened to before anything is priced. That is the only way to know whether a guest track can be cleaned or only improved, whether the tracks line up, and how much of the recording is the episode.

What comes back is a written quotation: the scope, one total figure in pounds sterling with any tax due already inside it, the date the files are due, and how many rounds of changes are included.

  3. 03

    You confirm the price

Nothing is started and nothing is charged for until you accept the quotation in writing. Accepting it makes the contract; our order confirmation, sent by email, is what says it is made.

If you want a change to the scope, that is a new quotation rather than an adjustment made quietly.

  4. 04

    You pay against the confirmation

By bank transfer on an invoice, by card, or through PayPal, on the secure payment link in the email. This site takes no payments and has no checkout.

Card details are entered on the payment provider's own page and are handled by them. We never see them and never hold them.

  5. 05

    We hand the episode over

WAV and MP3 from the same master, by email or on a download link, named to your convention. A link that lapses before you have the files is reissued, free of charge.

Then the rounds of changes named in the quotation. When the order closes, the working session and your source files are removed on the schedule set out in the Privacy Policy.

Before you send

What to send, and what to say about it

The closer this is first time, the closer the quotation is first time.

What we can work from

  • WAV, AIFF, FLAC: best, and what a recorder or a multitrack session usually produces
  • MP3, M4A, MP4 audio: workable, though what has already been thrown away cannot be got back
  • A separate file per speaker where you have one, rather than a mix
  • The unedited recording rather than one already trimmed, unless the trim is what you want kept

How to get it to us

  • A link from the storage you already use, set so we can download it
  • Your recording platform's own share link, where it issues one
  • Small files attached to an email, where they are small enough to attach
  • Tell us if a link expires, so we can copy the files before it does

What to put in the brief

  • Roughly how long the recording runs and how many people are on it
  • Anything that should come out, by the time it starts
  • Names, places and terms you want spelled or pronounced a particular way in the notes
  • Where your intro, outro, beds and stings go, and confirmation that you hold the rights to them
  • The date you are publishing, if there is one

Nothing you send is published, shown to anyone else or used as an example of our work. If we ever wanted to use a piece of an episode for that, we would ask you first, in writing, and a no would cost you nothing.

Questions

Worth settling before you send anything

Do I have to know what I want done?
No. Tell us what the recording is and what the show is for, and the quotation will say what we would do with it. You can take things out of that scope before accepting it.
What if the recording is in poor condition?
We say so when we quote, and we say how far it can be taken. Some faults come out completely, some come out one at a time, and some are recorded into the voice and can only be improved. Which is which is set out on the Episode editing page.
Can you work from a video call recording?
Yes, from the audio of one. Call recordings are compressed and often already processed, so they clean up less far than a local recording, and the quotation will say so.
Do you edit the video version too?
No. This is an audio service. If you publish a video version, the edited audio can be given to whoever assembles it, but the video itself is not part of an order here.
Can you use music I found online?
Only if you hold the rights to use it in a podcast. We ask you to confirm that before an episode is assembled, and we do not license music on your behalf.
What happens to my files afterwards?
The working session and your source files are kept while the order is open and through the period for changes, then removed. The schedule is in the Privacy Policy.
Can I cancel?
Yes. If you are a consumer you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of the contract being made, and the whole of how that works, including the model cancellation form, is on the Delivery & Refunds page.
